Meet Dr. Thomas Wilkins, MD, FAAPMR, RMSK

Green Bay's homegrown pain management specialist — back where he started. For Dr. Thomas Wilkins, practicing in Green Bay isn't a career stop — it's a homecoming. After building his expertise in neuro-musculoskeletal medicine over more than two decades, including years serving this very community, Dr. Wilkins returned to Green Bay to open Bay Area Spine and Pain Center: an independent clinic where patients see the same physician at every visit, for every procedure. 17 years developing relationships in Green Bay has factored heavily in Dr. Wilkins’ return. Green Bay is home, and generational family ties to North East Wisconsin run deep. He is looking forward to rekindling his physician – patient relationships that developed over the years, as well as meeting the many new individuals that he will be able to help.

Board-certified, and then some

Dr. Wilkins is board-certified in Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation by the American
Board of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (ABPMR) and is a Fellow of the
American Academy of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (FAAPMR). Physiatrists like
Dr. Wilkins specialize in restoring function — treating the whole person, not just an
image on a scan — which shapes how this clinic approaches every case: accurate
diagnosis first, the least invasive effective treatment next. He also holds the RMSK certification (Registered in Musculoskeletal Sonography) — and not as a latecomer. Dr. Wilkins was among the pioneer holders of this national credential and was the first physician in Northeast Wisconsin to bring diagnostic
musculoskeletal ultrasound into clinical practice, a tool that allows many conditions to
be diagnosed and treated in a single visit.

How Dr. Wilkins practices

Every procedure at Bay Area Spine and Pain Center — every injection, every nerve
study, every ultrasound — is performed by Dr. Wilkins personally. Patients aren't
handed between providers, and treatment decisions are made by the physician who
knows the full history. His clinical focus spans the three sources of most chronic pain:
the spine, the musculoskeletal system, and the nerves — with a full complement of non-
operative treatments, from image-guided injections and radiofrequency ablation to EMG
diagnostics and advanced therapies like spinal cord stimulation.

Beyond the clinic

Dr. Wilkins is an avid sports fan and enjoys both professional and college level sports.
Having attended both The University of Wisconsin and Michigan State University, he is
proudly both a Badger and Spartan. When not in clinic, he can be found travelling and
immersing in new experiences as well as spending time in the North Woods with his
family.
